The Buckinghams @Hillside Park 7/18/23

July 18th Hillside Concert; The Buckinghams;-  11  People showed up for this “not to be missed event,” (a record)  Tall Club Members;- Milanne, Cliff, Jean & Pat C., and yours truly; Tall Club Wannabe’s included; Linda (my sister), Dave S; Liz, Joe, Tina & Evil Al.  In the many years of attending the Hillside concerts, this was the most crowded!  It was so crowded, it was amazing we all found each other!  We more or less met at the same place we have been sitting at for years!  At the start, the sun was in our eyes. It was like watching somebody welding.  I brought earplugs this time, so no unsightly toilet paper sticking out of my ears. Believe it or not, they weren’t as loud as they’ve been in the past.  The Buckinghams after thanking us for naming a fountain after them, which was nice but pales in comparison to the palace in Britain named after them.

They were asking for singing requests, so I asked for “How Much Is That Doggie In The Window,”  One of Doris Day’s greatest hits.  She was an actress who was Rock Hudson’s love interest in several “B:” movies.  Doris Day never sang Rock & Roll. I couldn’t imagine Doris Day singing “Rock’n Robin.” She always wore a Pageboy Haircut, smiled, and was ditsy and annoying.  Lots to eat at this event. The previous 5:30 PM “Savage,” concert would require me to drive through rush hour traffic. I got there at 7 pm and had to park 5 blocks away. Tina & Evil Al got there early enough to hear Savage. Tina said she was still partially deaf from Savage and her hearing would never be the same.  In the future, I plan to get there at 7:30 PM, because there’s still too much traffic at 7 PM.  Double concerts results in Concert Overload. Forget the Car Show. It’s too crowded, although I do miss honking their horns.  A massive exit ensued after the concert. Unfortunately, Jean & Pat got stuck, while I got to the concert entrance with one-way traffic reversed, avoiding lengthy travel times and excessive “get out of my way,” honking & swearing. I need to show them that next time.
